Think Functional Program
Assist adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities to improve executive functioning skills within IADL tasks to promote independence.
WELCOME
Guardian Speech Therapy specializes in treating cognitive communication deficits for all ages within functional everyday tasks to promote independence at home and within the community. Therapy practices are rooted in the principle of neuroplasticity meaning our thoughts, emotions, and experiences result in changes to the connections in the brain! Here are some common medical conditions associated with cognitive communication deficits:
-
Executive Functioning Disorder
-
Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
-
Stroke (Cerebrovascular Accident or CVA)
-
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
-
Concussion
-
Non-Traumatic Brain Injury (brain tumors)
-
Aneurysm & Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)
-
Parkinson's Disease (PD)
-
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
-
Dementia & Alzheimer's Disease
-
Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA)
-
Autoimmune Disease
*Although many of these diagnoses are more prevalent within the adult population, we also gladly serve pediatrics and adolescents struggling with these conditions using more of a cognitive-communication approach versus strictly a language approach as utilized in most traditional pediatric speech therapy practices.
*Many people with developmental disabilities (e.g. Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, etc.) are not diagnosed but suffer from executive functioning deficits greatly impacting independence. We love working with this population. Please see the Think Functional program for more details.
